Belonging

It feels good to say, “I belong” or “I feel like I belong”

But what does that really mean? It’s perhaps worth defining so that we can more effectively pursue circumstances that foster belonging for both ourselves and the people around us.

Here’s a version: belonging is…any situation where you feel like you do not have to compromise who you are.

If you feel like you have to change who you are to earn acceptance, it’s not for you.

There’s something really empowering about realizing this, walking away, and redirecting your energy to people and places where you are accepted for who you are.
