Ephemera

One of my favorite places in Taiwan is Jiufen, a mountain in the northeastern part of the island that is full of beautiful views, delicious food, and tea shops.

It also happens to be a place that’s impossible to fully capture.

There’s no lens wide enough to capture its beauty. There’s no journal entry detailed enough to lock in every sensory experience there is to be had in this beautiful place.

The only way to fully appreciate this place, as is the case with many things in life, is to simply be there to enjoy it.

Technology has made it easier to document everything which can be both wonderful and to our detriment.

Not everything needs to be documented. You don’t need a photo of everything, you don’t need to go to exceptional lengths to make something unforgettable.

Sometimes it’s enough — more even — to just be where you are, looking at what you’re looking at, speaking to who you’re speaking too, fully engaged with what you’re doing.
