Two simple acts that can really help during a challenging time:
- Just acknowledging the challenging circumstances — this that can be surprisingly difficult particularly if you tend to hold high expectations for yourself. Nevertheless, it’s okay to say, “this is tougher and more stressful than I thought.”
- Giving yourself grace — acknowledging that you’re doing your best, but that you’re also human. Maybe you need more rest than you’re used to taking, maybe you need more help than you’re used to asking for — all of that is okay.
Resilience is not about running through walls despite what you’re confronted with. Yes, you can push yourself and go surprisingly far, but at some point it catches up with you.
It’s about being in-tune with the situation in front of you, how your mind and body are handling it, and tending to what you need in order to move forward without sacrificing yourself in the process.
