Honesty is kindness
We should strive to be maximally truthful to ourselves and others, no matter how inconvenient, undesirable, or difficult it may be at times.
The truth is a kind and generous thing to offer — it is the only thing that allows us to assess where we are with clear eyes so that we can figure out how to best move forward.
In a college lecture, Nvidia CEO Jensen Hang said the key to being successful is “learning to fail quickly and to change courses as soon as you know it’s a dead end…the way to do that [is to] assess on a continuous basis whether something makes sense or not. And if it’s the wrong decision, let’s change our mind.”
The un-sugarcoated truth is the most foundational component to this sense-making apparatus that Huang so greatly stresses.
Without it, don’t know where we’re headed.
