How great is your great?
A coworker recently shared a project with me that exhibited a level of rigor that was multiple levels above what I’m used to seeing.
It made me realize that the work I was doing that I thought was great was actually mediocre.
And, critically, it made me want to be better.
I think we are all subject to being creatures of mediocrity just as we are creatures of habit.
This is not a criticism of our value or potential as people, but rather a reminder that we are often capable of more than what we give ourselves credit for.
Perhaps the idea of greatness best serves us as an evolving concept that is consistently positioned a notch higher than that we can comfortably do today.
