How many times do you have left?
If your parents are in their 60s and you are optimistic that they’ll live another 30 years, you might conclude that you have 30 more years with them.
This is not true.
Tim Urban shared a bit of quick math on his blog waitbutwhy.com: assuming you see them on average 10 days each year, the answer is you have less than one year remaining with them or 300 days.
The same logic can be applied to anyone and any activity in life.
I go to Taiwan every 2 years or so, if I live another 60 years that means I’ll get to see Taiwan maybe 30 more times.
I have some dear friends that I try to see once a year which translates to 60 more chances to see them. That’s it.
Translating how many opportunities you realistically have remaining to do certain things is humbling.
Be present when you get them. Savor them.
And don’t take them for granted, you’re not guaranteed to get all of them.
