Is there a right way?

There are superior and inferior ways of doing things, but there’s seldom a best way.

Sure we often use the term “best practices”, but what is generally meant by this term is: “this is our preferred way of doing things today.”

Best practices get overridden all the time.

Realizing that there’s rarely, if ever, a perfectly unassailable approach to doing something is a liberating insight.

It can alleviate a significant amount of pressure when thinking about how we navigate our own careers and lives.

Am I doing this career thing the ‘right’ way?

Am I living my life the ‘right’ way?

The people that come up with some of the most novel, impactful, and meaningful paths in life are the ones who realize that we’re all making it up as we go.
