Lean into the mess

My favorite phrase from one of today’s meetings: “lean into the mess.”

When you are trying to do something new, it will often be messy at times.

It’s a see-saw between knowing what you’re striving for while not quite knowing what you’re doing or what is required to get there.

You’ll try things, learn a lot, and realize you need to change direction from time to time.

This kind of ‘messiness’ is normal and part of the process. You might need to take regular breaks because it requires a lot of energy to work through a mess, and that’s okay — encouraged even.

The other side of leaning into the mess is progress.

Be patient, work with it, celebrate incremental moments of clarity when they happen because they will happen if you stick with it.

You will get there.
