One foot in front of the other

The idea of running a marathon can be more intimidating than the idea of running a mile.

The idea of writing an entire novel can be more intimidating than the idea of writing a chapter.

In general, the broader the scope, the more intimidating the journey can feel.

The more intimidating the journey feels, the more effort that’s required to start.

The more effort required to start, the less likely you are to begin.

To avoid this kind of paralysis, try focusing your attention on smaller chunks of the journey, smaller bouts of effort, and smaller increments of time.

It’s much simpler, sustainable, and more effective to focus on moving one foot in front of the other to get to where you want to go.
