Reinventing yourself
Bob Dylan’s music spans an extraordinary range: from rock and roll to blues, to country, to gospel.
His uncanny ability to reinvent himself always made me somewhat skeptical of my college counselor’s question: “what do you want to do with your life?”
I get it, we have to pick and try things.
But I like to think that there is an open invitation to change & rewrite our stories.
I’m partial to Walt Whitman’s words in Song of Myself:
Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes)
We are world champions at preserving the person we were yesterday.
But if Dylan can do it, surely we can become masters at discovering the kind of person we are capable of becoming.
