Reserved empty space

No one (ok, almost no one) designing room is going to fill every square inch of the space.

It would be utter chaos: both visually and practically.

The space that gets taken up is just a significant as the space not filled.

The empty space that offers some breathing room to the left or right side of a desk, is just as functional and important as the desk itself.

They balance each other out to create a place that is lovely to inhabit.

Likewise we might consider taking a cue from this observation in how we think about managing our commitments.

If you’ve filled up every part of your day with commitments, it’s probably too much. It doesn’t feel good.

As a rule of thumb, it’s always good to reserve some empty space.

And contrary to what it’s name might suggest, it isn’t mean to be filled. Remaining empty is its purpose, it’s what gives you breathing room so that you can rest properly and thrive.
