sitting next to the unknown
Every time my lease agreement comes up for renewal, I generate a heap of stress by asking what if?
What if the homeowner doesn’t want to renew? I’ll have to scramble to find another place, pack again, move again, unpack again. Plans will have to be changed. Damn.
I could be at the beach on a beautiful, sunny day yet I’d be rendered totally incapable of enjoying my surroundings the moment these thoughts begin to form.
This isn’t sustainable path forward, so what is?
Learning how to sit with the unknown.
Maybe I will have to move out. It will probably seem inconvenient at the time, but it’s doable.
Can I accept that this is possible? Can I accept that I will be able to handle it and will be fine?
Yes.
One of my favorite songs from Moulin Rouge is Come What May — it’s a love song that doesn’t really have anything to do with this topic, but the title does feel appropriate here.
The future will always be filled with unknowns. Whatever comes, you are capable of adapting and managing so…come what may.
If you can learn to accept this premise in this moment, you’re free.
