the middle
It’s super easy to talk about the end:
“I will improve my health.”
“I will start reading more.”
“I will be more mindful.”
All these declarative statements represent an ideal state and they presume that you’ve done all the hard work of figuring out how to achieve them.
…which brings me to the thing many of us don’t spend nearly enough time thinking about: the wide, spacious, easy-to-dismiss middle wherein we must actually figure out how to get to the end.
For months I’ve been contemplating recording video content again, but even the most basic and obvious steps to realize this goal never crossed my mind: getting my camera out of storage, planning what I want to talk about and — crazy thought — actually scheduling when I’ll start.
Talking about the end is fun because dreaming is fun.
But if you want any of what you’re hoping to do to cross into reality, you should start caring more about the middle and mapping specific actions around your desires.
